Ben Affleck completes secret alcohol addiction treatment
Ben Affleck has made a "positive recovery" after secretly seeking help for his alcohol addiction.
The "Live By Night" star revealed he has completed his latest treatment on Tuesday in a post on his Facebook page, confessing his battle with the booze is something he has "dealt with in the past" and will "continue to confront."
The 44-year-old actor and director separated from his actress wife Jennifer Garner, the mother of his three children, in 2015 after 10 years of marriage, and Affleck admits one of the reasons he chose to face his demons again was to improve his family life.
"I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be," he shared in his social media message. "I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.
"I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Garner, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery."
Last week reports emerged suggesting Garner and Affleck have put their divorce on hold, with a source telling People.com the couple were "giving things another try."
“They could always get back together,” another insider informed Us Weekly. “There is a lot of love and support there, and they have worked out a way to have their family that works for them."
Neither actor has publicly addressed rumors they are reconciling, but both stars are clearly very fond of each other.
Affleck praised his estranged wife in an Extra TV interview in October, stating he was "so impressed" by Garner's political activism, adding, "She’s a great mom."
Meanwhile, Garner told the Today Show she and Affleck remain "great friends", stating, "We're doing really well."
This isn't the first time Affleck has sought help for alcohol abuse - he checked into rehab back in 2001.
His publicist, David Pollick, said at the time, "Ben is a self-aware and smart man who has decided that a fuller life awaits him without alcohol. He has chosen to seek out professional assistance and is committed to travelling a healthier road with the support of his family, friends and fans."
