Rochester, N.Y. - 2018 marks the 200th birthday of Frederick Douglass.

"Re-energizing the Legacy of Frederick Douglass” is a year-long public art project and exhibition for the legacy of Douglass and his 25 years spent in Rochester.

The Rochester Community Media Center, Rochester Contemporary Art Center and the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives are all collaborating on the project.

Part of the project will be a series of life-size statues of Douglass, which will be placed at locations that are historically significant to his life in Rochester.

On February 2 through March 18, the Rochester Contemporary Art Center will present a curated exhibit “No Soil Better: Art & the Living Legacy of Frederick Douglass,” which will feature works by nine regional artists.

The third component of the project is the Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Commemoration Committee. The committee has a variety of events scheduled. For a calendar of events, go to the City of Rochester website.
