"Fill the Bus" campaign underway at Wegmans, helps feed the hungry
Henrietta, N.Y. - Not having a meal is a reality for more than 50,000 children in the Rochester area.
The BackPack program, however, is designed to help eliminate child hunger, and now Wegmans shoppers can lend a hand.
Foodlink has teamed up with Wegmans to provide meals to families.
The "Fill the Bus" food drive collects donations for the BackPack program, which allows food insecure children an opportunity to bring home a bag full of nutritious food over the weekend and during holiday breaks, when they no longer have access to school meals.
They're looking for nutritious foods like canned tuna, oatmeal packs, and granola bars.
Pre-packaged bags of food are also available at Wegmans checkout.
The campaign runs through September 23rd.
