Lilac Festival kicks off for 120th season
Rochester, N.Y. —
(WHAM) - The Lilac Festival kicked off Friday at Highland Park. This year is the 120th annual season to celebrate the largest collection of lilacs in North America. The 1,200 bushes of 800 varieties of lilacs have started blooming, with many already in bloom.
This year, to kick off the festival, organizers honored our hometown heroes with a Flag Garden. You can buy a flag at festival to "plant" in the garden. All proceeds from those flags will be going to help support Honor Flight in their missions.
The festival will feature performances from more than 120 bands and musical acts, over 300 vendors - including food vendors and food trucks to please everyone's appetite - and craft beverage expos during both weekends.
There is even a new Lilac Adventure Zone for kids to enjoy.
The Lilac Festival runs from Friday, May 11 through Sunday, May 20.
