Local HS trumpet player to march in Macy's Thanksgiving Parade
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - A sophomore at Allendale-Columbia will be playing in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade this November.
John Phillips is the first musician from Monroe County to play in the Great American High School Marching Band as part of the parade.
Just four high school students were selected from New York to march in the parade as part of the band, which has been marching for the last ten years.
Phillips will head down to New York City on November 18 to meet the other 225 members of the band from around the country and begin rehearsing for the 90th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.
For the last six years, Phillips has been playing the trumpet. He was selected after submitting an audition video to the selection committee back in April.
“I thought it was a long shot, but I wanted to play with this amazing group of musicians," Phillips said. "I was floored when I got my acceptance letter. I can’t wait to get to New York and start practicing with this remarkable group of musicians.”
