Albion, N.Y. (WHAM) - Police in Albion arrested a woman on animal cruelty charges after she reportedly suffocated her pets intentionally.

Officers said on October 31, 2017, 63-year-old Suzanne Fredenberg believed her two pets - a dog and a cat - had a deadly bird mite infection.

According to investigators, Fredenberg placed both the dog and cat inside a garbage bag and tied it shut. Both animals died due to a lack of oxygen.

Both of the animals were buried in Fredenberg's backyard on Lydun Drive.

Police arrested Fredenberg and charged her with two felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty.

Fredenberg faces up to four years in prison if convicted of the charges. The Humane Law Enforcement Department at Lollypop Farm is conducting necropsies of the animals.
