Police: WNY man sets fire to house over refused refund for vehicles
Almond, N.Y. (WHAM) - State Police said a man from Allegany County tried to burn down a house after the homeowner refused to refund his money from a vehicle purchase.
According to troopers, 74-year-old Gary Marvel bought a farm tractor and a van from a homeowner on Karr-Valley Road in Almond.
Later, Marvel tried to return the vehicles to the homeowner. When the homeowner refused to refund Marvel's money, he left.
On Wednesday, the homeowner's house caught fire and was determined to be suspicious by Allegany County Fire investigators.
Several neighbors and the homeowner said they saw Marvel at the home carrying items to start the fire.
Marvel, who currently lives out of his vehicle, was arrested and charged with felony arson 3rd. He was arraigned and remanded to the Allegany County Jail on lieu of $5,000 bail.
