Doctors find 27 contact lenses in woman's eye
Doctors found 27 contact lenses in a UK woman's eye in an incident reported earlier this month.
According to CNN, the 67-year-old was scheduled for cataract surgery last year after reporting symptoms of dry eye and general discomfort.
Though the woman thought her condition to be the result of old age, doctors at the Solihull Hospital soon found she had 27 contact lenses stuck in her right eye in a "blue mass."
The stack was discovered when an anesthetist started to numb her eye for the operation before noticing the first cluster, CNN reported.
The woman told doctors she had worn disposable contact lenses for 35 years.
Occasionally, she said, she would go to remove the lenses -- and wouldn't be able to find them.
Assuming they had fallen out, she would disregard the absence.
Doctors say the incident should serve as a reminder of the importance of attending regular doctor appointments while wearing contact lenses.
If a contact wearer experiences a weird feeling or knows they did not remove their contacts, they should go to a doctor.
