Cierra Dillard eclipses the 2,000 point mark
Cierra Dillard became just the 20th girl in Section V girls basketball history to reach 2,000 career points.
The Gates-Chili senior entered Wednesday's game against Brockport needing just seven points to reach the milestone. It didn't take her long to get there. Dillard hit threes on two of the Spartans first four possessions to close within one point of 2,000.
On her team's fifth possession, Dillard was fouled, and cooly walked up to the line and sank the first free throw, getting her to the hard-earned milestone.
The game was briefly stopped for a short ceremony, during which Dillard received a special ball to mark the occassion. Her coach, teammates, and mother all shared the moment on the court.
Dillard finished the game with 25 points, giving her 2,018 for her career. Gates-Chili won the game as well.
