Granite, Rucinski named International League all-stars

Syracuse Silences Rochester on the Road

ROCHESTER, NY – Rochester Red Wings outfielder Zack Granite and right-handed pitcher Drew Rucinski have been named International League All-Stars, the league office announced Thursday.

Granite was elected as a starter, leading the league with a .369 batting average and a .420 on-base percentage entering play Thursday. He has reached base 28 games in a row while collecting a hit in 10 straight and 27 of his last 28 games. Granite has 14 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 19 RBI, 35 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in 50 games this season. He becomes the first Rochester outfielder to make the All-Star team since Dustin Martin in 2010.

Rucinski has been a relied upon member of a stellar Red Wings bullpen this season, going 2-2 with one save and a 1.74 ERA (6 ER, 31 IP) in 19 games, including one start. He’s surrendered just 21 hits and three walks with 28 strikeouts. Rucinski allowed a run in each of his first three appearances of the season but has surrendered just three since. He has worked 15.2 consecutive scoreless innings over eight games since May 27.

This is Granite’s first mid-season All-Star selection of his career and the second of Rucinski’s, joining 2014 with Double-A Arkansas. The duo will join Wings athletic trainer Larry Bennese, who was named to the All-Star staff two weeks ago.

The 30th annual contest will take place, for the first time, at historic Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Washington on Wednesday, July 12 at 9:05 p.m. ET/6:05 p.m. PT. The game can be seen on MLB Network and heard on the Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network.
