The George Eastman Museum is a leader in preservation and conservation of film. In fact, many of the most iconic films, film collections, and moments in history captured on film, are cared for by the film preservationist at the museum.

At the Louis B. Mayer Conservation Center, original films like Gone With the Wind, Wizard of Oz and Meet Me In St. Louis are cared for by the museum. More than 40,000 reels, equaling 26 million feet of film, are kept at this location.

You can see a nitrate film at the Dryden Theatre.

Ashley Doerzbacher took us inside 'the vault' to see where some of the reels are kept, and learned how these nitrate films are cared for, and films kept for generations to come.
