Honor Flight is getting ready to welcome home Mission 70 veterans at the Rochester International Airport this weekend.

HFR Missions provide for area veterans what has been described as "the trip of a lifetime." The program brings United States Military veterans to Washington D.C. at no cost to them to see memorials honoring them and their fellow service members.

Flights had been paused due to COVID risks, but on Saturday, April 2, Mission 70 will fly out of the airport in Rochester with 57 local veterans and will return Sunday, April 3.

The 57 veterans flying out are comprised of 3 veterans from World War II, 5 from the Korean War, 31 from the Vietnam War, and 18 from the Cold War.

Six missions are planned for 2022 in the spring and fall and veterans who were slated to fly pre-pandemic will be at the top of the fly list.

Honor Flight Chairman Peter Glennon joined Good Day Rochester to discuss more about the program's return and the powerful moments he witnesses working with veterans through these trips.
