Hundreds of cyclists depart on 400-mile trip for the Erie Canal

Cyclists leave from Fairport this morning to continue the next leg of the journey across the state, heading to Seneca Falls today.

In celebration of the Erie Canal's bicentennial, more than 700 cyclists departed on a 400-mile trip across New York state Sunday.

The 400-mile longride began in Buffalo and will conclude in Albany, continuing along the Erie Canalway Trail for the entire stretch.

The 20th annual Cycle the Erie Canal tour stopped in Fairport last night. This morning, we talked to assistant bike tour director Greg Francese as cyclists departed for the next leg of the journey.
