Local jazz musicians team up for concert featuring Doc Severinsen


    Doc Severinsen will join the Sonic Era Jazz Orchestra for its first concert April 17, conducted by Jeff Tyzik.

    Several of Western New York's top jazz musicians are teaming up to form the new Sonic Era Jazz Orchestra, with legendary trumpeter Doc Severinsen joining the group for its inaugural performance.

    Severinsen, 91, the longtime bandleader on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, will perform with the orchestra April 17 at the Greece Central Performing Arts Center. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30. Jeff Tyzik will conduct.

    The orchestra's founder, Karl Stabnau, joined us this morning, along with pianist John Nyerges, to talk about the group and what to expect from the performance.
