A cappella group sings about sexual assault

Geneva, N.Y. - An a cappella group at Hobart and William Smith Colleges has entered an online video contest called "Sing for Survivors."

The group, "Three Miles Lost" did a cover of "Til It Happens to You." The song was written by Lady Gaga and Diane Warren for the documentary "The Hunting Ground," which is about sexual assault on campus.

Student Jessica Bishop said, "The statistics that were shown in that film are horrifying and really reaffirm why we wanted to do this competition, and why we wanted to do this for ourselves and for our community and for everyone we know."

Every member of the singing group has been either directly or indirectly touched by this issue.

"Being able to address such an important cause through using music as a such a therapeutic tool, we thought it was so amazing for us to be able to do it," stated student Erica Mcllaughlin. "So regardless of the competition itself we really want to create something for people who have been impacted by this and it was amazing we were able to be a part of it."

The video has gotten more than 215,000 views on YouTube and people have been reaching out to the group about their own survival stories.
