Brighton, N.Y. (WHAM) - Dozens of people are flocking to an event in Brighton, hoping to learn how much their old treasured toys might be worth.
The Vintage Toy Show is in Rochester this weekend. The event is part of a new show called 'America's Toy Scout', which features Joel Magee from Pawn Stars on the History Channel as its host. Magee is a Disney toy expert.
Magee offers cash payment on the spot for popular toys from the 1908s and earlier. From Star Wars collectibles to Hot Wheels and Barbie dolls, toys in any condition are being displayed, bought and sold.
On Friday morning, the event had to open up 90 minutes early because so many people were lining up.
One person who came in with a Lost In Space jet gun found out that their toy was worth $15,000.
Alan and Eileen Kinney came because they decided it was time for some downsizing at their house.
"We just decided it was time to clean the house out," Alan said. "She's got an owl collection, I've got my stock car collection. So it's all this other stuff that's just hanging around and nobody really enjoys, so it's time to get rid of it."
Magee said it is a relief for both the former toy owners and collectors alike.
"The nice thing is is that these toys get a breath of new life," Magee said. "Instead of sitting in an attic or basement and rotting away, they go to collectors who absolutely cherish these things."
The Vintage Toy Show will continue through this weekend at the Courtyard Marriott on Corporate Woods Drive.
