Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Firefighters in Rochester were able to contain an apartment fire at a multi-family house Tuesday afternoon.

The Rochester Fire Department said crews were called to a house fire at 46-48 Delmar Street around 3:20 p.m.

Firefighters said they fought a heavy fire inside a 2nd floor apartment of a two-family house. They were able to extinguish the flames before they spread to the attic or lower apartment.

The neighbor downstairs told fire investigators he saw the tenant upstairs leave a short time before the fire.

Between the two apartments, only one person was home at the time of the fire and was able to get out safely.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
