Pittsford, N.Y. - A Gates man pleaded guilty to felony forgery charges after he stole more than $88,000 from his employer over a three-year period.

Richard Luciano, 52, pleaded guilty to one count of forgery Wednesday afternoon in court.

Luciano was arrested in August after Ontario County Sheriff's deputies said he stole tens of thousands of dollars from MRI Contractors of NY between April 2015 and June 2018. Investigators say Luciano was employed as a dump truck driver, and that he would deliver topsoil to a Mendon business. During these instances, Luciano would reportedly accept a check made out to MRI.

Deputies allege Luciano altered the checks to say, "MR Richard Luciano" and have the check deposited into his own checking account.

Luciano was accused of altering a total of 109 checks. The plea to the forgery crime satisfies the 109 count indictment. He will also be ordered to pay back $80,000.

The plea agreement involves a sentence of 30 days in jail and 5 years probation.
