Police arrest WNY man for shaking 4-month-old baby

Alden, N.Y. (WHAM) - A man from Alden was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including reckless assault of a child, for shaking a baby.

On January 7, State Police were called to a home on Exchange Street in Alden, Erie County, for a medical call involving a four-month-old child who had fallen. Troopers and Alden EMS workers arrived on scene; the child was later taken to the Children's Hospital by their parents.

After further investigation, State Police determined the child suffered bilateral subdural hemorrhages as a result of shaken baby syndrome.

On Tuesday, police arrested 28-year-old Joseph Jurek and charged him with felony assault 1, felony reckless assault of a child, felony criminal possession of marijuana 3rd and endangering the welfare of a child.

Jurek was arraigned and remanded to the Erie County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
