Police: Father, son arrested after 140 animals seized at 3 farms

Wirt, N.Y. (WHAM) - State Police arrested a father and son in the Southern Tier after investigators found 140 animals in poor health at three farm properties.

Troopers said they arrested Daniel Hint, 55, and Joshua Hint, 36, on Wednesday after Allegany County SPCA investigators reported a complaint of deceased, malnourished, and neglected animals.

Troopers investigated at three farm properties, all of which were located in the town of Wirt. The farms are located on State Route 275 and County Road 8 . At the farms, investigators found nine dead animals.

In total, the SPCA removed 140 other animals from the farms.

Both men were arrested and charged with failure to provide sustenance. Daniel Hint was also charged with neglect of an impounded animal, improper disposal of dead animals, and failure to provide shelter for dogs left outdoors.

The two were arraigned in Wirt Town Court and released on their own recognizance. Both are scheduled to reappear in court later this month.
