Geneva, N.Y. (WHAM) - A woman from Geneva was arrested Thursday night after Geneva Police said she threatened them with a butcher knife.

Officers were called to an apartment on South Main Street near William Street around 9:30 p.m. to check on the welfare of a person.

When police arrived, they spoke with 25-year-old Elizabeth Richards, who "immediately became combative," according to officers.

Richards is accused of picking up a large butcher knife and holding it in a threatening manner toward police officers. Police said they were in fear of "physical injury, serious physical injury or death" at that point.

Richard was arrested and charged with two felony counts of menacing a police officer.

She is awaiting arraignment, according to Geneva Police.
