Henrietta, N.Y. (WHAM) - Monroe County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Rush-Henrietta Senior High School Wednesday morning for the report of a student with a gun.

In a message posted on the Rush-Henrietta District website, principal Beth Patton said a student was found to have brought an airsoft pistol to the school. Airsoft guns fire plastic BBs and/or pellets; they cannot fire bullets. However, airsoft guns can still cause significant injuries if used inappropriately.

No one made any threats or put anyone in danger, according to the statement.

"This appears to be a case of a student who simply did not think through the ramifications of a very poor decision," Patton said in the statement.

The student will be dealt with according the district's Code of Conduct; the penalties are "quite serious," according to Patton.

Deputies said they did not make an arrest in this case.
