Barre, N.Y. (WHAM) - Sheriff's deputies say three people were taken into custody after a high-speed chase ended in a crash in Orleans County Friday afternoon.
According to a report from the Orleans Hub, three people accused of shoplifting from a Kohl's department store in Batavia got into a van and left the store around 1:40 p.m.
Genesee County Sheriff's deputies say store personnel reported the suspected shoplifters' license plate, and law enforcement officers soon found a vehicle matching the description. They say a pursuit lasting between 10-15 miles ensued.
The alleged shoplifters were throwing clothes and stolen merchandise out of the windows of the van along Rt. 98.
At times, Orleans County Sheriff's deputies say the van was speeding at more than 120 MPH.
The van eventually crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Rt. 98 and Lime Kiln Road in Barre. Genesee County Sheriff's deputies say the vehicle attempted to turn to avoid spike strips and law enforcement officers, and ended up crashing.
The driver was taken to a nearby hospital by Central Orleans Volunteer Ambulance for minor injuries. The other two people in the car were checked out by medical personnel on scene.
No one from the crash has been identified yet. Deputies have not said what charges could be pending against any of the three people involved in the crash.
