Two police officers shot; suspected shooter killed near Seattle Sunday, December 17, 2017 (KOMO)

BREMERTON, Wash. (KOMO) - Two Bremerton police officers were wounded and a suspected shooter killed in a gun battle early Sunday morning.

The officers were rushed to Harrison Hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

Police say the incident began at 1:16 a.m. in a parking lot at Lions Park off Lebo Boulevard and Hefner Avenue. The officers approached a 53-year-old Bremerton man who was in the front driver's seat of an SUV. He was believed to have violated a domestic violence protection order.

Police say initial reports are that the man opened fire on both officers. One officer was shot at least twice in the abdomen, and the other was hit in the waist.

The officers returned fire and killed the man, police said.

A 911 call of shots fired went out at 1:20 a.m.

The Kitsap Critical Incident Response Team (KCIRT) has been activated, in which area agencies respond to conduct a comprehensive and objective investigation of the incident. The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol will be leading the investigation, assisted by Poulsbo, Bainbridge Island, and Port Orchard Police Departments.
