Five local soccer teams advance to New York State championship games Sunday
Section V girls soccer sent three teams to the New York State semifinals Saturday.
All three are staying in Cortland until Sunday.
Spencerport scored three straight to overcome a first half deficit and take down North Shore 3-1, while Wheatland-Chili and Aquinas both put forth dominating performances, winning 4-0 and 3-0 respectively.
Spencerport and Wheatland Chili will both be looking to defend their 2016 championships, both at the same time in separate locations. The Rangers will play against Pearl River at Cortland HS at 10 am. The Wildcats will play Poland at Homer high school at 10 am.
Aquinas will play Westhill at Homer high school at 12:30 pm.
The boys, meanwhile, went two for three.
McQuaid needed overtime, but still advanced past Ithaca 1-0 to remain unbeaten and earn a spot in the AA championship Sunday against Half Hollow Mills West Sunday at 12:30 pm in Middletown.
Elba/Byron-Bergen cruised to a 4-0 win over Lake Placid in the Class C semis. The top-ranked Bees will play Lansing for the championship Sunday morning at 10:30.
Pittsford Sutherland is the only team from Saturday not to earn a trip to the championship, but the Knights gave it a great run, losing to Vestal 2-1.
