Winning McQuaid football team no surprise to coaching brothers

Brighton, N.Y. (WHAM) - One of the best football teams in Section V is a bit of a surprise this fall - and so is their coaching staff.

McQuaid Jesuit did not have a lot of attention when the 2017 season began, but the Knights have quickly begun to prove themselves as a real threat.

They also have a new head coach this season, but he is nothing new to the McQuaid program.

Up until 2012, Bobby Bates was the head coach at McQuaid and his brother, Dan, was his assistant.

When Bobby left to coach at Irondequoit, Dan took over for the Knights. Then, in 2015, Bobby moved back.

It has been a journey and kind of unconventional. But for the Bates brothers, it's just another day.

The two have had some quality time to get to know one another, but if you think they are similar, you might be mistaken. The two are quite different.

So far, Bobby and Dan do have one thing in common: they know how to win. The 2-0 Knights know that too.

The Knights are facing off against Monroe Friday night at 7:00 for their homecoming matchup.
